Artist's Description
The beach at Wildcat Cove is part of Larrabee State Park in Washington, which closes at dusk, so I had to park outside and sneak back in to take this shot. It was low tide, so climbing over the slippery rocks to get to the waterline in the dark was an interesting experience!
The bright object dead centre is Jupiter. Also visible are Orion's Belt, Aldebaran, Rigel, Capella and many others!
The glow of Victoria on Vancouver Island is very clearly visible on the horizon, as well as some lights on the nearer islands. Some very faint reflections of the brightest stars are just about visible on the water.
About Alexis Birkill
Born in the UK, I moved to Vancouver, BC in 2011. My career in photography has grown from a long-held passion for capturing the beauty of the world, aided on the technical side by my background as a software developer. I specialise in fine art photography of landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes in and around the Pacific Northwest, with work exhibited internationally. Many of my photographs feature the beautiful city of Vancouver, but as well as capturing its iconic cityscapes, I can often be found exploring the BC and Washington coastline for new photographic opportunities, as well as developing my portfolio of night sky photographs featuring the Milky Way and the Aurora Borealis.
