Artist's Description

Another photograph from Wreck Beach, near UBC in Vancouver. I really liked this shot taken just before the sun set behind the North Shore mountains, as it was just glancing off the tops of the wet rocks, and lighting them up very beautifully.

This also shows the amount of cloud in the sky that was lit up once the sun had set, producing the beautiful post-sunset colours that night.

This used my typical setup for beach sunsets -- a 3-stop graduated ND filter to help the balance between the sky and the ground, a circular polariser to emphasise the reflections in the water and on the rocks.

About Alexis Birkill

Alexis Birkill

Born in the UK, I moved to Vancouver, BC in 2011. My career in photography has grown from a long-held passion for capturing the beauty of the world, aided on the technical side by my background as a software developer. I specialise in fine art photography of landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes in and around the Pacific Northwest, with work exhibited internationally. Many of my photographs feature the beautiful city of Vancouver, but as well as capturing its iconic cityscapes, I can often be found exploring the BC and Washington coastline for new photographic opportunities, as well as developing my portfolio of night sky photographs featuring the Milky Way and the Aurora Borealis.
