Artist's Description
The sun sets on a cold winter afternoon at Birch Bay State Park in northern Washington, just across the border from BC. In the distance across the water can be seen the San Juan Islands in the US and the Gulf Islands in BC.
The sun was just peeking out from behind some patchy clouds before it set behind the treeline, and the low angle of light caused some beautiful shadows to be cast by the pebbles on the beach. I waited until a wave came in to give some interest to the water.
About Alexis Birkill
Born in the UK, I moved to Vancouver, BC in 2011. My career in photography has grown from a long-held passion for capturing the beauty of the world, aided on the technical side by my background as a software developer. I specialise in fine art photography of landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes in and around the Pacific Northwest, with work exhibited internationally. Many of my photographs feature the beautiful city of Vancouver, but as well as capturing its iconic cityscapes, I can often be found exploring the BC and Washington coastline for new photographic opportunities, as well as developing my portfolio of night sky photographs featuring the Milky Way and the Aurora Borealis.
