Artist's Description
The United States Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel, near Colorado Springs, is an imposing modern chapel built in 1962. It consists primarily of seventeen giant spires in a row, with thin mosaics of stained-glass window tiles filling the gaps. Apart from the large window at the far end, all of the light inside the building comes from these strips of glass, causing it to glow inside with amazing colours when the sun shines. Controversial when built, the chapel was named a National Historic Landmark in 2004.
About Alexis Birkill
Born in the UK, I moved to Vancouver, BC in 2011. My career in photography has grown from a long-held passion for capturing the beauty of the world, aided on the technical side by my background as a software developer. I specialise in fine art photography of landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes in and around the Pacific Northwest, with work exhibited internationally. Many of my photographs feature the beautiful city of Vancouver, but as well as capturing its iconic cityscapes, I can often be found exploring the BC and Washington coastline for new photographic opportunities, as well as developing my portfolio of night sky photographs featuring the Milky Way and the Aurora Borealis.
