An abstract photograph of a tomato, taken by freezing the moment the tomato was dropped into a large glass vase, with a black background positioned behind. Two external flashes were used to freeze the motion and illuminate the tomato.
I discovered whilst taking this shot that tomatoes are denser than water (and hence sink, making retrieval a rather damp process!)
About Alexis Birkill
Born in the UK, I moved to Vancouver, BC in 2011. My career in photography has grown from a long-held passion for capturing the beauty of the world, aided on the technical side by my background as a software developer. I specialise in fine art photography of landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes in and around the Pacific Northwest, with work exhibited internationally. Many of my photographs feature the beautiful city of Vancouver, but as well as capturing its iconic cityscapes, I can often be found exploring the BC and Washington coastline for new photographic opportunities, as well as developing my portfolio of night sky photographs featuring the Milky Way and the Aurora Borealis.
