Artist's Description
Star trails over Mount Shuksan in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, photographed in January 2013. The foreground light in this photograph came entirely from the stars (and Jupiter, the brightest streak in the top-right of the image).
Because the camera was pointed at approximately 90 degrees from Polaris, the stars in the centre of the image appear to streak in a straight line, with those above and below curving up and down. Also, the Milky Way has been captured in this photo, clearly visible as a brighter vertical stripe just to the left of the middle of the photo.
About Alexis Birkill
Born in the UK, I moved to Vancouver, BC in 2011. My career in photography has grown from a long-held passion for capturing the beauty of the world, aided on the technical side by my background as a software developer. I specialise in fine art photography of landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes in and around the Pacific Northwest, with work exhibited internationally. Many of my photographs feature the beautiful city of Vancouver, but as well as capturing its iconic cityscapes, I can often be found exploring the BC and Washington coastline for new photographic opportunities, as well as developing my portfolio of night sky photographs featuring the Milky Way and the Aurora Borealis.
