Artist's Description
With the rain beating against the windows as I got this image off the card, it seemed hard to believe that this was only taken two nights earlier, but as is often the case, the rain was preceded by a stunning sunset.
Once again I found myself in West Vancouver, looking towards the sunset, although at this time of year it is setting behind the islands. I particularly liked this seaweed-covered rock, and the textures and colours it produced. To get this viewpoint involved a rather slippery climb over some other rocks.
In the distance is Bowen Island on the left, with Gambier Island to the right and the mountains of the Sunshine Coast in the distance. As usual at sunset, I used a 3-stop graduated ND filter to control the brightness in the sky.
About Alexis Birkill

Born in the UK, I moved to Vancouver, BC in 2011. My career in photography has grown from a long-held passion for capturing the beauty of the world, aided on the technical side by my background as a software developer. I specialise in fine art photography of landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes in and around the Pacific Northwest, with work exhibited internationally. Many of my photographs feature the beautiful city of Vancouver, but as well as capturing its iconic cityscapes, I can often be found exploring the BC and Washington coastline for new photographic opportunities, as well as developing my portfolio of night sky photographs featuring the Milky Way and the Aurora Borealis.
