Artist's Description

Point Atkinson Lighthouse in West Vancouver. This lighthouse is at the northern end of the Burrard Inlet. The current building was erected in 1912, although there has been a lighthouse on the site since 1875.

The light in the lighthouse is very faint, so it was *very* dark when I took this -- I was glad I had a torch to make my way through the woods back to the car. Also was probably only about 5 minutes away from getting my feet wet -- the route back from the rock I was standing on was rapidly disappearing under the rising tide!

About Alexis Birkill

Alexis Birkill

Born in the UK, I moved to Vancouver, BC in 2011. My career in photography has grown from a long-held passion for capturing the beauty of the world, aided on the technical side by my background as a software developer. I specialise in fine art photography of landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes in and around the Pacific Northwest, with work exhibited internationally. Many of my photographs feature the beautiful city of Vancouver, but as well as capturing its iconic cityscapes, I can often be found exploring the BC and Washington coastline for new photographic opportunities, as well as developing my portfolio of night sky photographs featuring the Milky Way and the Aurora Borealis.
