Artist's Description

East Diamond Lake Highway on the way to Crater Lake National Park in Oregon, on another very hot and very hazy day in July.

I have a thing for photographing roads, and when I saw this stunning straight road with the heat haze rippling off it and the trees framing it on either side, I just had to pull over and take a shot. I waited until the two cars in the far distance were passing each other -- they are so far away you can only just make them out!

About Alexis Birkill

Alexis Birkill

Born in the UK, I moved to Vancouver, BC in 2011. My career in photography has grown from a long-held passion for capturing the beauty of the world, aided on the technical side by my background as a software developer. I specialise in fine art photography of landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes in and around the Pacific Northwest, with work exhibited internationally. Many of my photographs feature the beautiful city of Vancouver, but as well as capturing its iconic cityscapes, I can often be found exploring the BC and Washington coastline for new photographic opportunities, as well as developing my portfolio of night sky photographs featuring the Milky Way and the Aurora Borealis.
