Artist's Description
Taken from about half-way along the west side of the Cambie Street bridge, this is the view of the Yaletown area of downtown Vancouver and False Creek. The Quayside Marina can be seen at the bottom of the photograph.
This was shortly after sunset on a beautiful but very cold day. I had to wait quite a long time to get all the water shots without any ripples or disturbances from passing water taxis or pleasure craft travelling along the creek.
This is a 276 megapixel panorama that will look stunning when printed huge. This has more than enough detail to see the many Vancouver residents who are a bit tardy at taking their Christmas trees down. You can even tell what time it was taken by looking at clocks through the apartment windows!
Note that the 'full resolution' previews here are not even close to full resolution, a limit with the site. The full panorama can be seen on Gigapan: http://gigapan.com/gigapans/121600
About Alexis Birkill
Born in the UK, I moved to Vancouver, BC in 2011. My career in photography has grown from a long-held passion for capturing the beauty of the world, aided on the technical side by my background as a software developer. I specialise in fine art photography of landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes in and around the Pacific Northwest, with work exhibited internationally. Many of my photographs feature the beautiful city of Vancouver, but as well as capturing its iconic cityscapes, I can often be found exploring the BC and Washington coastline for new photographic opportunities, as well as developing my portfolio of night sky photographs featuring the Milky Way and the Aurora Borealis.
